Unrelated to those very funny remixes of G.I. Joe's "Knowing is half the battle" skits we all love, I've discovered the greatest song ever, and it is "Cobra Stops the World!" off Suckadelic's SuperVillains album. Anytime you make a song where Cobra Commander is screaming about attacking the world over big break beats, you have me sold. God bless Radio K for introducing me to it. Have yourself a listen.
At work today I finished a command line tool to diff MySQL tables... highly useful. I also made a little script called hop that will move me from /test_foo/bar/ to /foo/bar/ and back again in our filesystem since we have lots of foo's and test_foo's due to cvs and blah blah. Also highly useful. A total pain though... it only works through alias and backtick shell magic. Good geeky day in general. Now I just need to get my bash prompt to grep out just the first letter of my username and just two specific components of the path and then I'll be happy. Let's say user zach was logged into host wibble, I want something like this:
[z@wibble site_or_lib_name/deepest_path_element]$
I'll work on it.
Man, it is cool having assistants. My leaving old boss and I spec'ed out a bunch of stuff for our calendar, then I wrote it up and gave it to my programming assisstant and he's doing all the work so I could concentrate on writing MySQL table diff'ers and API test suites.
I also applied for a one bedroom near the MIA and Eat Street and Electric Fetus. I can't wait for the A/C and the dishwasher.

No Zach, sed is never the solution. Sed is a gateway command - next it'll be awk, and then down the slippery slope that ends up in "emacs can do everything!" world. Stop now, and return to nice friendly perl/php.
Also, the new NIN video for "Only" is complete crap. Your opinion?
