i.l.m. - illustrated lemony magic

<< Jan 4, 2005 @ 22:19 >>

I just got back from seeing Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events film with Colin. The ending title sequence was the most awesomely illustrated thing I have ever seen, I wish I had seen the opening titles but I missed the begining of the film. Being that I am a huge fan of Edward Gorey, it is no surprise I am so fond of the illustration work on this film. Beyond the Gorey comparison however, I'm sure they ripped off some young designer I'm unaware of as that is usually the case. Then again, the real Lemony Snicket website (not the film site) has elements of the design in it as well.

As for the movie, the pacing was wrong and the characters were two-dimensional.

Plus, ok, so the guy built a complex lens rig just to set fire to houses. But, ok, why did he burn the other houses down if he wanted the money? I mean, ok, I understand if this is part of a bigger series, and you're setting that up as the plot for the future movies, but then you should indicate that.

But it was pretty.

I agree, it had problems. I'm just mad that you pointed out the truth.
