beetlejuice

So... as a true procrastinator is want to do, I was reading the ingredients on my Minute Maid® brand Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice:

"...LESS THAN 1% OF: VITAMIN C (ASCORBIC ACID), NATURAL FLAVORS [sic], CITRIC ACID (PROVIDES TARTNESS), COCHINEAL EXTRACT (FOR COLOR)."

Cochineal Extract?! Full stop.

For those of you who aren't familiar, allow me to quote the wikipedia:

"A deep crimson dye is extracted from the female cochineal insects. ... cochineal extract is a colouring made from the raw dried and pulverised bodies of insects ... The insects are killed by immersion in hot water (after which they are dried) or by exposure to sunlight, steam, or the heat of an oven."

Yes. That's right. I'm drinking ground up bugs. I guess it is supposed to be better for me. Artificial red food colouring is a lot cheaper, so I'm kind of surprised.

P.S. That isn't laughing. That is Michael Jackson singing.

P.P.S. It is also technically alliteration.

Post id #747... naturally.

Cask ales have proven to be more of a joy than Guinness.

Also, how many Frenchmen does it take to turn off a lightbulb?

Answer: 2 American girls. One to yell, one to translate.

a gambit for my ambit

Feb 27, 2007 @ 09:43

My usual route to work involves a jaunt down the sidestreets to avoid the traffic lights and "No Turn on Red" signs of the main roads. Despite it being days since our snow storm, my way was blocked this morning by a huge snow drift freshly plowed across the road in front of me by a snow plow crossing the intersection.

It was like my car was the Baalrog and the snowdrift was Gandalf. "You shall not pass!" It commanded. The snow was even kind of grey, which fits, because Gandalf wasn't Gandalf the White in that part of the movie yet.

Uh... *cough*

So I backed up and turned around to find a new route. On the way out of the little cleverly constructed snow trap, three cars were headed towards me. "You must answer me these autos three," Gandalf said. Oh wait, wrong movie. Those poor suckers had to all turn around, too... but they had to contend with eachother being in the way in order to do it.

Just when I was thinking I got the long end of that stick, and chuckling to myself at their misfortune, I took a left turn onto my alternate route and...

...a black cat crossed my path.

If I get hit by a meteor or something today, I just want you all to know I saw it coming.
