episode 69: attack of the penis

<< Mar 17, 2005 @ 19:10 >>

bottom feederSo I "found" this portfolio website for a designer living in Minneapolis who goes by the moniker MPS. (I find it funny that his initials are similar to his airport code.)

I was clicking through to look at his illustrations and definitely enjoyed them. The reason I'm bothering to blog about it though is that his illustrations strangely invoke the original Star Wars trilogy for me. Doesn't this piece titled "bottom feeder" remind you of that girl alien singer in the bar with the long legs, short torso, and long mouth tube with lips on the end? Which of the three movies was that? Well, it reminds me of her... only without a head... and with a flaccid penis.

Also, if you go to his site and click 'Illustration' and click on the very first upper-left image you'll get a popup of another drawing by MPS that reminds me of the bad guy from Jabba the Hut's lair with that long wormy thing on it's head. Sorry I don't have a better link... frames and javascript complications.

Am I totally alone in my seeing Star Wars in this art?

I also like Rotoface, filed under 'Design.' Again with the link problems.

Hey, thanks for the write-up. Glad you like the site. And yeah, one of my earlist memories is watching the first Star Wars at the local drive in with my parents. I think it's safe to say it played a big part in my artistic development.

Do you know the alien in question? She was singing in the bar in I've been told The Empire Strikes Back.

I tried to get Drawn! to pick up your portfolio cause I enjoy your work. They are a great blog, you should check them out: http://www.drawn.ca/

I think that might have been the singer in Jabba's place in Return of the Jedi.

I checked out the Drawn! blog, awesome site. I spend entirely too much time surfing the net looking at cool research. I need to get more drawing done.
