I was watching I think Chapters 5 and 6, or 4 and 5... whatever... of The Royal Tenenbaums. There is this line where Bill Murray's character says, "You've made a cuckold out of me. Several times over." From context, one could imagine what it means. It indeed does have a meaning deeper than just "a man whose wife is unfaithful." There are connotations of helplessness and humiliation. Go ahead and read the wikipedia entry yourself. The most amazing thing in the Wikipedia entry is this discussion about "wearing the horns of the Cuckold" or just "wearing the horns." Let me tell you why:

When I was in España back in 2000 after my High School graduation, I had a family stay for a week. I had a little Spanish brother named Alberto and a Spanish Sister named Ínes who was also 18.

Since Ínes was my age, I mostly hung out with her and her friends– her incredibly cute Spanish girl friends. I'm sad to say I no longer remember for sure, but I do believe it was one of the three Maria's that Ínes knew that took a liking to me. Apparently the same girl had made out with the last American exchange. Maria, as we'll call her, kept telling me that my girlfriend back home was "giving me horns" (dar cuernos), and I didn't understand it. Somebody, whether it was Ínes or Maria, explained to me that "giving me horns" meant she was cheating on me. She kept saying since your girlfriend is giving you horns, you might as well cheat on her, too. In retrospect, I absolutely should have.

I never understood why the Spanish would have such a phrase, but thanks to the Wikipedia, it is all so clear now.
