So, I was just at the grocery store... this guy was tap dancing (in tap dance shoes) while juggling oranges.
And I don't think he worked there.

Well, I was right. The government did NOT stop the Total Information Awareness (TIA) program when Congress cut it's funding citing privacy issues. They just swept it into a classified NSA program... you know, where we aren't allowed to know anything about it.

For the record, both Newsweek and the Christian Science Monitor independently reported that TIA was never halted, as well...

You really, really owe it to yourself to read about TIA and/or listen to the interview clips available online as part of the "No Place to Hide" documentary. It's captivating stuff. Basically, the government is operating in this gray area where they take consumer databases and mine through them for interesting bits of implicating information about you.
So... let's review: T 'N A, good. T I A, bad.

I live in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District. Martin Sabo is my Congressman. You can check on house.gov if he is your Congressman by typing in your zip code. If he is, and really even if he isn't, I would invite you to ask him why his name is on a proposal to repeal the 22nd Amendment (term limits for Presidents).
Congressman Sabo is a Democrat. His website seems to claim he is anti-Iraq-war. Something doesn't compute.
I've written Mr. Sabo this Fall expressing my contempt for our failed Federal leadership. I stated that the Congress elected in 2006 should, in my belief, impeach Bush for a number of reasons. He's never written me back. Not even a form letter.
His constituents can also fill out his 2006 Questionnaire.

It's really interesting to me how often the Big Brother / Surveillance Society issues pop up these days, and how you find them in unlikely places. I think that's a sign of just how pervasive and real the problem is. Or maybe it'd be more correct to call the problem new and poorly understood. Man, if I won $300 million, I would want to remain anonymous as long as possible. I'd be seriously pissed if the surveillance tapes of me buying the ticket were in the news. So far I don't think the store has released the footage. I hope they don't.
