republican recession

<< Jan 18, 2008 @ 23:01 >>

The Republican plan to save the economy is just more of the same. Their plan to save the economy is what put us in this mess in the first place.

We have the largest wage disparity in this country since the Gilded Age, and we've got an average savings rate that is NEGATIVE. The last time that happened was the Great Depression. Our Fed chairman is saying consumers need to spend more to bail the economy out. Spend what money? They're already spending 1% more than they earn.

The Republicans want to cut corporate taxes. They somehow think that will encourage business to create jobs. Why would they create jobs? Demand for products isn't suddenly going to increase just because businesses get a tax cut. What, are they going to need to hire some extra workers to count the money that won't be taken out of the annual profits by Uncle Sam? The money is just going to stay in the corporate accounts or it is going to go to the CEO. Just like what is happening now. The Republican plan doesn't make any damn sense.

How about you give a refund to the middle class directly, while also RAISING taxes on corporate profits. Tell business that they should pay out that extra money they got sitting around in their accounts as wages to their workers or they'll lose it to taxes. Then consumers will have some cash to spend.

Things really suck. And the Republicans clearly are out of touch. You've got people like Rep. Bachmann saying crazy, CRAZY things like, "I am so proud to be from the state of Minnesota. We're the workingest state in the country, and the reason why we are, we have more people that are working longer hours, we have people that are working two jobs."

Oh yeah we just love HAVING to work two jobs in order to pay our bills, because a middle class income isn't enough for the American Dream anymore. Super.

You know, if you want to boost the economy, I got an idea for you. How about we end the Iraq War, and spend that $275 million PER DAY someplace else. The economy would be looking pretty damn good then, wouldn't it?
