We are so incredibly screwed. An old, Republican who lives in Utah now heads the new Senate subcommittee on Intellectual Property: Orrin Hatch.
This is the guy that suggested that the RIAA/MPAA should be allowed to remotely destroy end-users' computers if those end-users are known pirates. Nevermind all the I.P. on my computer that I created that I may or may not have backed up. Great idea.
Besides that, he's OLD! How do we expect some old dude from Utah to make sound decisions about Intellectual Property law as it applies to the modern technology he knows nothing about?
